European hotel real estate investment was up +3.4% year-on-year in 2018, totalling €23.0 billion for the period. Sustained investor demand continues to put pressure on yields with downward movement recorded in a number of key European markets.

Some of the key highlights include:

  • The UK hotel deal volume was up +24.4% in the 12-months to Q4 2018, accounting for 33.5% of all investment in the European region;
  • Spain was the second highest European country in terms of hotel investment volume, up +34.6% year-on-year;
  • Investment into the Italian hotel market increased for the seventh consecutive year;
  • 2018 was a stellar year for Ireland. The deal volume was up 389.9 per cent to €748 million.
